went on to a long career as an attorney and judge, most recently serving as a United States District Judge for the Central District of Illinois from 1985 until his retirement in September 2022.

Mills was preceded in death by his beloved wife, 瑞秋·基格尔·米尔斯. The couple married in 1962 and had two sons, 乔恩 and 丹尼尔. 他还有三个孙子和一个曾孙。
