麦里斯教练曾经说过：“我认为是人们让IC与众不同。 伊利诺伊大学的人是最重要的一部分。” 对于学生、教职员工和朋友来说，比尔体现了伊利诺斯大学那种改变人生的人。 这位深受爱戴的教练于2023年6月13日去世，离他的93岁生日（6月20日）只有一周的时间。
